Each year, law students at the University of Utah and Brigham Young University apply to receive student scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $8,650. Scholarships are awarded based on an application, resume, short essay, and letters of reference. Scholarship winners are also assigned a lawyer mentor through our UMBA Pipeline Program.*

In 2023, UMBA, with the help of matching funds from the S.J. Quinney College of Law and J. Reuben Clark Law School, awarded over $38,000 in scholarships based on students' academic achievement, record of service to racial and ethnic communities, and potential to positively impact and represent Utah's racial and ethnic communities in their future legal career.

* The UMBA Pipeline Program is sponsored by Holland & Hart. This mentorship program was created to foster a diverse presence in the Utah legal community, address the issue of our growing ethnic minority populations in Utah, encourage students to pursue the practice of law in Utah, and to strengthen and unite our UMBA membership.
